avi
Hi Are there any "real world" audio performance benefits or disadvantages with Pure Music in changing to internal SSD for OSx and external HDD via fireware (or other) for audio data storage ? Avi Link to comment
dmccombs
Pure Music sounds terrific, without an SSD. Its a terrific program. When you install an internal SSD into a Mac Mini though, you bring down the noise floor, which benefits all audio applications. The SSD draws less power and returns OSX and application I/O faster. Therefore the system works less, and there is less emi reflected in the box. The lower noise floors allows you to hear better seperation betweens instruments, better soundstage, tighter bass, cleaner highs, etc. Link to comment
avi
Thanks for the feedback. Just to clarify do your comments relate to using the "internal" SSD for OSx only with audio data on an external drive or OSx and audio data on the internal SSD ? Any view on the use of mechanical versus SSD in external storage for audio ? Avi Link to comment

dmccombs
Avi, Yes, my comments are related to using an SSD internal drive for the OSX and the music player software, and then using an external firewire for the music storage. Link to comment
driven -- by sound
Darrell, thank you for your time in this space (Computer Audiophile). I've a 2010 Mac mini and recently added 8GB of memory. And looking to add an internal 40GB SSD. My external HDD is Firewire but with AC adapter, not Bus powered. Will I still see gains? driven | by sound - \"bats & audiophiles\"[br] Link to comment
