57gold
Have a late 2010 Mac Mini with 8 GB RAM and 200 GB SSD (OWC) and just turned it on, turned off Spotlight and followed Gordon's directions along with PM's. Don't remember any directions related to "booting"? Tone with Soul Link to comment

57gold
So, I can boot with 64 bit kernel...still not sure what that does for my tunes? I'm using both PM and AyreWave to feed a Wavelink which directs a signal to a Wadia 861i which can handle 24/96 resolution. Will booting with 64 bit kernel in music dedicated Mini add something good/noticeable to SQ? Tone with Soul Link to comment
The Offenbach Kid
Hi 57gold, I think only you can say if the difference is worth it but for me the music became more open, clearer. Boot in 64 bit mode and listen to some of your favourite music. Give it enough time for the sound qualities to be fixed in your head. Switch off the system and reboot in 32 bit mode and listen to the same music. Switch off again and reboot in 64 bit mode. If all is well in your world I doubt you will ever boot in 32 bit mode again. 57gold
Followed kindly supplied apple.com provided instruction. Played a couple of tunes with PM upsampling AIFF files to 88.2 and more open at high end, more clarity across the board and more bass definition (less wooly)...neat trick. Thanks guys...nice bump in SQ, like adding a higher end cable or using a better mixed/engineered recording, subtle but very musical enhancement. Glad I asked...and thankful for the CA support group.
