Can’t comment until I get the J-R.

I must admit that I am quite curious as to how this pea shooter will do against your power amps considering their power requirements.

I understand your point, it's a small, and not particularly impressive amp, in appearance, yes. Although, to be fair, we don't exactly know that it is a "peashooter", as Schiit publishes no wattage numbers for it, and has never commented on it, other than to say it has sufficient power for the SR1a's and they worked with RAAL to ensure that. They have also been known to pack some significant watts into small, unassuming packages previously, too.

JC

Of course you are correct. It was mostly a comment about its size.

Understood, and, of course, as we all know, size is important! :)

JC

Not to belabor things, but in power amps it often is!

Would anyone consider a 150watt tube amp?

The MingDa MC368-B150 sells on china-hifi-audio.com for $2,300 plus shipping.

This is the only KT150 tube amplifier that I found that advertises 150 watts.

Every other KT150 based tube amp I seen is either 100watts or under. The KT150 is, I think, the most powerful tube on the market for pure wattage.

Perhaps it isn't 150 watts then, or they are simply driving the tubes hard? There is no magic in this.

Which leads to the question: what are the good tube-based direct-drive amps out there, if any?

My SR1as arrive this coming week; my Jot-R is here and waiting. :)

I am guessing something like the AtmaSphere MA-60s might work well. They love higher Z loads. I think they have an integrated too.

This could very well be an excellent suggestion, the power levels still concern me, but they do, as you noted deal well with more difficult loads. I would ask Ralph Karsten for his thoughts. Wonderful guy to deal with and he knows absolutely everything about his products, and audio in general.

JC

One could check with Ralph, who is a great guy, and see. To my knowledge however, that OTL circuit would increase it's power when driving a higher impedance load. It seems like a potentially nice pairing. Anyone is welcome to bring/send RAALs here and I'd be happy to hook them up to mine and test them! I have numerous tube amps to try them on..lol
