Thanks for the help. I thought I'd ask for this info before I got into the project. I really appreciate the info it helps me feel more confident.

Completed this easily today. And, changed the voltage from 9v to 12v at the same time. Big thanks to @electrafixion for the info, photos, cap suggestions and power setting info.

 

My first ever cap change and it was painless. I bought two caps... just in case. But of course, that wasn't needed.

 

I didn't expect to hear any real change, but there is a measure of noticeable difference - at first listen I think the lower frequencies have tightened up some.

 

Mostly, I'm just glad it didn't go up in smoke when powered up.
