Help with Mac mini to iMac

Dear Forum members

I wonder if anybody can help with the following question:

I have new Mac mini which I would like to connect to my iMac (G5,1 - last of the white models) in order to configure it. Have tried with a LAN cable but the iMac does not recognise any connection. As I do not have a separate monitor, keyboard etc. is there another method ?.

You'll need to connect a monitor, keyboard and mouse for the initial configuration of the MacMini.

 

Do you have a TV with HDMI or DVI input? A cable to connect the two shouldn't cost much otherwise see if you can borrow a monitor from somewhere. Then use the keyboard and mouse from your iMac.

Eloise is correct as usual. Once you have it initially configured, you can use your iMac in target disk mode to transfer files if you have a large library.

 

Once configured there are many options for controlling the mini. I use screen sharing with wired ethernet or an iTouch if I am running iTunes for background music.
