john dozier
Alienware and some others offered this at on time. Are any manufacturers currently offering computers with toslink outputs. Thanks for the help Link to comment

stuarth
Apple, yes, and many others I would think. Comes down to the mainboard of your computer. A quick check of the Gigabyte product page http://www.gigabyte.com/products/main.aspx?s=42 shows many of their boards have it. The PC I built last year has TOSLINK, and I used it for the first time yesterday (normally use a USB audio device but had a driver issue). Link to comment
One and a half
Sony F Series new ones, limited to 24/96. Uses the same combo connector as Apple (3.5mm), so you need an adapter to connect to the standard TOSLINK. From memory the losses are about 1db or so, not so significant when you take the sensitivity of the receiver some tens of dbs into account. AS Profile Equipment List Say NO to MQA Link to comment
john dozier
Thanks for the help. I also found that Toshiba has a number of toslink equipped models. That would make sense since Toshiba invented the whole thing. I have narrowed it down to Toshiba and Macbook Pro. There is a substantial price difference, however, and I will just have to see if I can justify another 2k for the Mac. Thanks again. Link to comment

You could get a toslink mini - toslink cable and avoid the adapter. Bill Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Mac Mini->Roon + Tidal->KEF LS50W Link to comment
