Part-Time Audiophile
Anybody done an external for a Power Mac G5 tower, instead of a Mac Mini? Scot Hull Part-Time Audiophile Link to comment
Mr.C
I'm assuming you mean creating a custom supply with higher quality components rather than just taking the existing supply and putting it on top of the case Link to comment
Part-Time Audiophile
Uh, yeah. I meant something more like the Bolder solution .... Scot Hull Part-Time Audiophile Link to comment
cfmsp
Scot, Don't think so, as the G5 power supply requirements are quite a bit more complicated than the Mini. OTOH, none of the circuits in the G5 will actually benefit from a linear PS (in my opinion). You're already on the right track with Alan Maher gear. There's also another cheap box I use (as does my AC Guru) for "increasing the attenuation of power garbage between 100 and 500 KHz". It's made by a Ham radio engineer named Ed Wetherhold (aka W3NQN), and is offered to market by Array Solutions. http://www.arraysolutions.com/Products/nqnaclinefilter.htm costs something like $108. ... and of course, using something like the less expensive PS Audio devices like Duet (ask Barrows). I use an Audience AR1P, that I bought used, instead of PS Audio. clay Link to comment
silverlight
It's possible. Had it quoted and given the various voltage requirements, and number of components and large case required, I was quoted between $2k-$3k for a Bolder unit, which was above my pain threshold for a power experiment Link to comment
