billg
@Bixby Perhaps the benefit of the network drive is due to electrical isolation of the drive from the player. I have a music server pc with a SSD for OS and internal HDD for music (too much music, too little $$$). I isolate the drives electrically by using a linear psu and really like the effect. This is better than using internal drives on the audio pc or the unix nas I own. I saw you like Fidelizer Pro (as do I). I use windows server 2016 and AudiophileOptimizer - these make bigger improvements than playing with the drives. bixby 1 Link to comment
Popular Post billg
I think you really have to try it for yourself. I have tried many combinations. When I used Jplay up to version 6 a nas was better than local storage. But an optimised windows based music server was even better (minimserver, Jplaystreamer). Now that I use Jplay Femto (2pc config) the music is best internal to the Femto Server pc (though this was not what I expected). I use HDD with a noise filter for my music collection due to the high cost of multiple TB SSD but would prefer to use SSD. I found library management on a windows pc is much more convenient. The OS is now on ramdisk. All the components, power supplies and interconnects make a difference and the sound in your system depends on their quality and implementation.
