Yeah, not really an Aries mk2, but instead a whole new line. I had hoped for an "affordable" Aries mk2, perhaps in a Vega style box, with an internal HD bay.

And marketing must be a big part of it, how else can a company take one box and justify turning it into 4 new products: 3 of them optional for "extra performance".

I'd probably want to use something a little cheaper as a Roon endpoint, as it will replace a lot of the work Auralic has done to shape their sound. But perhaps thats the goal.

 

Otherwise, thats the way Roon works: music on a NAS (or local), a Roon server pulling that music and sending it to a Roon endpoint by command of a Roon controller somewhere, all on the same network.

Don’t worry, the reviews will all be glowing, bigger sound stage, more definition, etc, etc. The question is if it’s worth the price of admission. And yes, there’s some heavy competition.

i have the vega G2, and i find it to be a real bargain. 

Personally, I was expecting an Aries upgrade with a "ball park" similar price. The vega G2 is a different product, and is priced accordingly. Glad you're happy with yours, they certainly look nice. Hopefully an Aries hardware update will come later this year.
