We are currently investigating what the august windows updates broke.

So for the moment, just do not update anymore untill AO 2.20 Beta 6 is released.

Thanks for the advice.

How often should I run Windows Updates.

I only updated when I installed - sme 6 months ago.

After reading johsgjerde's comments on the JPlay forum, I tried WASAPI in 2016 core.

The results are stunning.

Although you can only use "Classic" mode in the JPlay settings, I think the results are superior to anything else that I have tried.

I use Hysolid as the player.

As you say Phil is owed a very bug thakyou.

Hi,

As a HySolid user I am disappointed not able to run WASAPI.  Could you please share your settings required to do so?  Right now I'm on KS, UltraStream, 1Hz, 10s.  Only Jplay driver appears on my iPad HySolid.

Hi,

Pleased to let you have my stable settings.

I, too had JPlay KS and setting 1Hz 10s.

However I found that Nontallion 8.88 would not run with these settings so I had former for Hysolid and 20 Hz 1s for  Nontallion.

When I injected WASAPI I found that 1Hz 10sec did not run and after experimentation I have settled on 20Hz 2s, which, incidentally is OK with Nontallion too.

I feel that the JPlay settings are probably determined by the DAC and computer HW so its a case of experimenting.

I run WS2016 in core mode on single INTEL i5 computer with 8Gb RAM.

My DAC is an M1 Mus Fid preceded with a MS 192 VLink.

Usually when I run Hysolid I run from the lock screen (i.e. before sign in.) Control is from an Android tablet or phone.

Regards

Hi,

I need to experiment more.  Mine is a dualPC setup, with B.M.C DAC.  Does your 20Hz 2s setting work with DSD too?

Many thanks for your kind response.  For a long time I haven't had Bug Head on my PC, just using HySolid exclusively.  JplayMini gets use sometimes for testing mainly.  Foorbar2k will be next on my list.

Beside using optimization software, how do you tweak your PC hardware?

Happy listening!

Hi,

My DAC doesn't support DSD.

BTW having a low time on JPlay Buffers has the added benefits that Hysolid is virtually gapless.

The only HW tweaks I have is a dedicated USB card which is battery powered.

My OS SSD drive is also battery powered. I have tried dedicated linear power but much prefer LI batteries.

Foobar doesn't seem too picky at all.

Cheers

Sorry I missed the WS2016 Core part.  Basically, I turn off power management of USB hubs and Ethernet card, set DAC, NIC, USB parameters to lowest latency.  Hope you've done most if not more of them already.

Thanks , done all those, but your advice should be interesting to others.

ATTENTION:

Windows 10 Redstone 4 (Spring update) has not yet been tested with AO. I recommend to not yet install the latest Windows 10 updates.

if you still want to, feel free to try out and report any issues should they arise.

But don‘t expect an immediate fix for possible upcoming issues, rather have an image backup ready to roll back if needed.

Best,

AudioPhil

Thanks Phil,

Does this also apply to Server 2016 updates?

So far I am a happy man indeed.

who did try WASAPI and can report success or failure?

WASAPI works well and sounds splendid.

However, using JPLAY Femto files that are above 96Hz will not play unless DAC link is set to 1Hz.

Oh, and of course only the Classic engine can be used.

This is exactly the right question. Personaly i don‘t, i have sent this browser to hell years ago.

microsoft itself recently published a blog in which they warn about the usage of IE and tell you to either use chrome or firefox.

i don‘t care at IE at all, but i want to know if that issue with it is caused through AO or not. As it seems its not.

Agreed

Someone here reported to use the latest WS2019 distribution from Microsoft. I visited Microsoft and indeed, they had a new release up for downloading. Of course, after a hard hit and the lesson I had received some time ago, I never delete old distributions unless the new ones are downloaded, installed and found perfect under normal working environment.

The transformation from Evaluation license to Standard license involves the well known dism command:

>   dism /online /set-edition:ServerStandardCor /productkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /accepteula

For a reason that I do not know, this command has generated errors in both 3 PCs while the older standard version downloaded a month ago had produced zero errors!

Just FYI!

Is there any reason why applying all updates doesn't get you the latest version?

i might start with another question first :)

What is your (i mean all beta testers) opinion about AO 3.00 in its current form (beta 36)? How do you like the new features? What about sound quality? speed and stability? Please all beta tester answer this question for me, this will help me get a sense of it all.

Thanks,

Phil

In my simple system I think it is wonderful.

The largest improvement has been that my electrostatic speakers have literally come alive!

Transparency

has reached a whole new level.

Thanks for you efforts.

AO 3.00 beta 36 is OK:

  • Sound quality is very very good and bring my system to life.
  • The system has not encountered any stability problems.
  • New features are very helpful.
  • If speed can be improved, it will be a good point.

PS:

Suggestion: Detail "To increase Simplicity": When AO ask for a binary choice, harmonise the questions so the answers can always be (Y)es or (N)o (no more E , D or ... at keyboard).

To be honest these questions don't bother me unduly. In some ways I think it helps  concentrate on the job before I select.

(AO was installed OK and using the AudiophileShell)

With my installation sconfig does not work after applying AO
