drambuie
I've been monitoring this site for a while and I have not seen any mention of using an Imac as a server as well as for other purposes. I realize having a dedicated computer as a server is ideal however would starting out with an Imac and later adding a mini pose any significant problems or drawbacks? I plan on using an asynchronous dac. Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
An iMac will work great, don't worry about it :~) Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
RayW
Also, the iMac is fanless and thus silent. I'm happy with mine. I'm using it with a Weiss DAC2 via Firewire. RayW Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
I don't believe the iMac is fanless. Here is an Apple document about fan issues in the iMac http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1433?viewlocale=en_US Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
RayW
Chris, Thanks for setting me straight on that one. My iMac is in a cool basement and the CPU is almost idle when playing music, so perhaps my fan runs so slowly that I can't hear it. RayW Link to comment
