Problem with Audirvana Plus and Integer Mode

Dear all,

I'm new in the forum. My name is Andrea, 44 years old and I'm from Italy.

I've been always a music and hi-fi lover, since when I bought my first stereo system several years ago.

Up to now I enjoyed physical CD's and LP vinyls (yes, I'm still buying vinyls :-)) but few months ago I decided to start listening high resolution files too and I acquired a DAC and a couple of softwares.

My system is now:

- Apple Mac Book Pro late 2009 with Yosemite as OS

- M2Tech Young DAC

- Audirvana Plus and Amarra 3.0 (updated to the latest versions)

When I use Audirvana, I'm facing problems in configuring Direct and Integer mode: basically, when checked, I'm usually able to listen only the first song, while all others are simply not playing at all. If I uncheck both options, all is playing well

Do you have any recommendation to help me to fix my problem? Is, in your opinion, a configuration or hardware issue?

Thanks a lot for your help

Kind regards

Andrea

There's an issue with M2tech drivers on OSX that has dragged on for many months when the OS changed.

A thread here that might help you.

Thanks a lot.

In the meantime I've learned more about my present issue. When Integer mode is selected, Audirvana is freezing when I change into a file with a different sample rate (e.g. from 44,1khz to 96khz)

Kind regards

I have found if any player, whether A+, Jriver, HQPlayer loses connectivity with the DAC, then freezing is a symptom. You may have to use either, not both Integer mode or Direct mode, or none of the tricks. It's now a while, but when Lion(?) was released, it dropped support for Integer mode, sorry the OS names might be muddled here and may not be right. Audirvana created direct mode to overcome Apple's poor decision, and by and large it worked. Yosemite and Mavericks(?) have support for Integer modes, so Direct mode doesn't need to be used.

So confusing...!

Also check AudioMidi that the DAC is set to 24bit integer mode and set to the maximum rate of the DAC. This value should match also in A+. Some DACs need some time to settle between sample rates, start the delay time in A+ to say 3 seconds, see how that works, and gradually reduce the delay to the minimum.

The other alternative is for A+ to use izotope to have a high fixed sample rate (like 192), so no need to worry anymore about changes in sampling rates, they are all the same.

There is a huge thread on Izotope at CA, where it can tailor the sound quite nicely and to good effect, all to do with adding the filter and release. Don't worry if the words are confusing, follow a few settings from readers and see how they work for you.

Or sell the Young and buy a Schiit Yggdrasil, no drivers required.
