Guillaume Girard
** EDIT: my computer corrected DSD to DAD in the title, sorry Hi, The title says it all I will use - MinimServer on my Synology NAS as a server. - any tablet/phone as a controller. Connected to my Mytek DSD DAC, I have a small headless Linux box. I will probably use Debian on it because I know the distribution quite well. Can anyone recommend an audiophile renderer that can play files gapless and knows how to read DSD files ? I mainly listen to classic music. I seems none of the following software does both: UPnP-MPD, CLIMediaRenderer, GMRender-Resurect, Mopidy + Rygel, Coherence, Serviio Thanks a lot Link to comment
firedog
You do realize for Linux you need the unofficial Linux driver for the Mytek? Main listening (small home office): Main setup: Surge protector +_iFi AC iPurifiers >Isol-8 Mini sub Axis Power Conditioning+Isolation>QuietPC Low Noise Server>Roon (Audiolense DRC)>Stack Audio Link II>Kii Control>Kii Three >GIK Room Treatments. Secondary Path: Server with Audiolense RC>RPi4 or analog>Cayin iDAC6 MKII (tube mode) (XLR)>Kii Three . Bedroom: SBTouch to Cambridge Soundworks Desktop Setup. Living Room/Kitchen: Ropieee (RPi3b+ with touchscreen) + Schiit Modi3E to a pair of Morel Hogtalare. All absolute statements about audio are false Link to comment
ronalde
If you'd be willing to give up the third requirement, ie the minimserver on the nas, and would be able to install mpd on the nas (for example inside a debian chroot), maybe upmpdcli could serve your upnp-renderer needs. Just out of curiosity, which upnp control point(s) do you use, or what other reasons do you have for wanting to stick to a complete upnp stack? Regards, Ronald Link to comment
jriver
JRiver Media Center for Linux will probably work. JRiver Media Center for Linux Jim Hillegass / JRiver Media Center / jriver.com Link to comment
Guillaume Girard
Thanks all for your help. I listen to classical music. Therefore I use a lot of tags so I need to be able to select by tags from the controller. It appears that only minim server allows this. Hence why I want a UPnP renderer. But I'm open to any solution you can think of as long as: - gapless - reads DSD to the Mytek - allows me to browse by tags. I tried JRiver but the software on smartphones is not customizable enough (inability to customize the tags displayed in the playing now screen) Ideally I'd like to be presented a list of tags I can filter with. THen When I choose one, I am presented by a second list and so on. I would click on "Composer" then "Bach" then "Solist" then "Glenn Gould" then "Type" then "Concerto" then "The Well Tempered Keyboard" then "play". Link to comment

I use mpd on a dedicated fanless computer, which supports bit-perfect gapless playback of PCM and DSD files from your local network. On the client/usability side things are a bit more complicated. While the default smartphone mpd client apps won't let you use tags or metadata like composer, there are native (Linux, Mac and Windows) clients (like gmpc) that do support such features. Such a client could be run on devices like (the "screen portion" of a convertable) laptop or a (rooted) tablet. Good luck, Ronald Link to comment
medoc
As far as I know, recent versions of upmpdcli (mpd front-end) and mpd handle DSD and gapless just fine. Cheers, jf Link to comment
