Thomas Erdelyi, a.k.a. Tommy Ramone, died Friday at 65. He was the last surviving member of the original group. Erdelyi trained as a recording engineer, and worked at The Record Plant in NYC. He played drums on, and co-produced, their first few albums. He also wrote many of their most notable songs, including "Blitzkrieg Bop".

 

The 1976-77 Tommy Ramone-era albums (Ramones, Leave Home, Rocket To Russia), remastered and re-released in 24/96 and 24/192 by Warner Bros./Rhino, and available for download on HDtracks, are magnificent.
