Just Nancy Webwinkel
Hello there, I was very pleased to see that audio streaming is taking serieus on this site. i own a mede8er (realtec chip) that i use as a dmr to play flac files stored on my qnap nas. De digital output goes to my dsp z9 yamaha amp. It sound prety good already on my b&w cdm 9nt speakers. The mede8er cost me €100 and is the cheapest component in the audio chain. i'm wondering wether spending more money on a dmr wile improve sound quality. on one hand i thing the mede8er is sending digital 0 & 1 to my receiver how can a more expensive product like a pioneer n-50 make a differents on the other hand i think is 100€ for the dmr good enough for the dsp z9 and the b&w. i hope this forum can shed some whisdom. excuse me for my English its not my native language Link to comment
davide256
DLNA is a bit frustrating at the moment because its not being taken seriously by the major manufacturers and what goes on with DLNA is a black box... they can't describe well what makes a better DLNA renderer. But it does make a difference to invest in a better DMR. I'm using an Oppo103 as my DMR and have been auditioning the Moon MiND and the Naim Digital Media Players... detail and bass improves as you are willing to spend more. The Pioneer has gapless which is a one up on the Oppo but I suspect the Oppo would beat the Pioneer on audio fidelity either digital or analog out. The Oppo interface is really slow and clunky as a digital media controller... I strictly use it as a DMR with PC as media controller Regards, Dave Audio system Link to comment

This is with my cd-plyer also the best result. Even if i were to spend more money on a cambridge oppo or pioneer i still would connect digitally. I think digital signals are always the same? Annyone ou there who can convince me that this not true and that the digital signal of an more expensive dmr sounds better thandvy cheap mede8er? kind regards and again sorry for my english... davide256
The DMR is only as good as the DMC. This site is about building an audiophile grade computer that's the starting point of audio playback, the DMC to feed the DMR. I recommend you start there before looking at other DMR's. From your setup it looks like the mede8er is the current DMC and I doubt its any better at it than my Oppo is. And your statement about no difference in 1's and zero's.. they can be different in time domain... jitter. Jitter is what confuses or irritates your ear and much of improving digital is about eliminating jitter. Regards, Dave Audio system Link to comment
