I just got home after waiting over three hours in line to get my 3G iPhone. I hope it works when I try to activate it in a few minutes.

Since I will be waiting a while to get my iPod Touch update... can someone please post their impressions by way of a 'Signal' comparison? Would be great to know some of the differences...

Hey Poo - I installed the remote app on my new iPhone 3G, but haven't had a ton of time to play with it. The app does seem pretty fast and I haven't run into any weird quirks yet.

My iPod Touch is in the middle of the v2.0 upgrade as I type this. I will have a complete article soon.

Chris, congrats on your 1st iPhone. You are going to love it. You get white or black? I didn't upgrade. I wasn't blown away by the GPS and I really didn't need the 3g network being that our area isn't really litup yet with 3g. I think I'll switch over when the HD increases. My sync is almost done. I have a few movies that I burned over so it's taking a while and I have at least 14 gigs of music. i should have booted out all the music and movies so I could get up and going but oh well. I want to play with it. Damn I wish people would stop calling me cause this is taking longer and longer! LOL

I'll let you know what I think of it after I get it up and going.
ya know I think yesterday went better than I thought it would have. I mean the first release it was horrible for 3-4 days after launch. By 8 last night everything was running normal. I think ATT and apple did fine this time. I mean shit is going to happen when you have thousands of people all trying to do the same thing in a window of time. The highway is only so wide to hold all that data! Got to be patient. Go outside cut the grass, work in the yard, help the parents with their yard alittle, ya know.
Hey jimi - I got the white 16 GB model. Everyone seems to be getting the black one around here so I had to be a little different :-)

I ran into the same thing when I updated my iPod Touch with v2.0. I wish I would have cleared all the movies on it so I could start using it sooner! Oh well, things are pretty good when were only complaining about this!

There certainly were some issues yesterday, but the press blew it way out of proportion. Who knows, maybe Apple was going for that effect.

ok here's what I don't like about remote so far. you have to have itunes open for it to find the library???? Signal open up iTunes for you if it isn't open. Much better in my opinion cause I don't want to have it open all the time. Remote is damn fast though. Also seriously. . .can someone please allow you to control radio stations from itunes! how hard is this to ask for! LOL iknow t he signal work around but what if I want to go back and forth between music and radio!
Isn't this great? The only thing I picked up on that looks bad is that it won't run cover flow from your iTunes, but that will surely come at some point. This sort of functionality is is just what I was getting at in a previous post (http://www.computeraudiophile.com/node/452) in response to Chris' "Build an Audiophile Home Server" thread. Having a Touch or Phone control iTunes is ok, but it's effectively two computers doing the job of one -- I look forward to the day (surely not too far off) when I can do without the Mac Mini and send all my MoFi WAV files direct from my 256GB Touch over wifi, preferably to a wireless-equipped TACT digital amp. Sure, the Touch battery life would blow, but so what; a one-piece, backup-free audiophile home server for a few 100$!!

Wishful thinking? I'd put money on all this being possible within 24 months...

cheers,
I have to play with it a little more today.
oh and here's something else that caught my eye. I was looking for that air remote but it isn't up yet. i came across the ilove control program that is used to integrate with Creston units to control all in your house. What was funny is how people are giving it bad reviews cause they say it doesn't work. I thought this was funny and how people just look for the work free without even reading on. First if you are looking for a universal remote program for your iPhone common sense should kick in and say hey there is no IR in this thing and if I did use wifi to send signals how the heck is my device even going to respond being that it only responds to IR commands?! It kinda peeved me that people would just say it sucks or is stupid or is a joke when they don't even have a clue what they were looking at. I personally can't wait for the air remote program. hooking the box that is needed to take wifi commands from the iphone to IR to output to the devices seems really cool. I also know that this app store is not a ends to the means for alot of programs on it. That is is a springboard say to introduce the program but then let you know what other material or equipment will be needed to integrate the iphone into the project.

Just had to get that out sorry if it's off topic and all!
Finally got the 2.0 upgrade sorted on my iPod Touch... no way I was going to pay for it. Now it's up and running with Remote, I have to say it's very nice indeed!

The only reason I own a Touch is for this functionality, which is miles ahead of Signal IMO. Much faster, smoother, simpler, prettier... Awesome that Signal beat Apple to it, but there will need to be some significant improvements made to get me switching back! Conversely, it's a shame that Apple look to have 'stolen' and improved Signal so as to claim it as their own (don't go ranting on about it by way of a reply - I know it's a less than fair accusation)

Nice improvement to my system :)

Hey Poo - The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the remote app interface was Signal. It does look awfully familiar :-|

I can't get iTunes to recognize the Remote app. My iPhone and PC are both on the same network. I have installed "Remote" on iPhone. When I choose my iPhone in the "devices" section of iTunes, I know the icon is supposed to change to look like a remote. But it doesn't. It still looks like an iPhone. And there is no place to enter the passcode.
What am I doing wrong???
Thanks for any help.
Hi Nina Jane - A few people have had similar issues. To set it up initially have your iPhone connected via USB to your music server. Launch the remote app so it says what code to enter. Then on the left side of iTunes there will be a little icon below your iPhone that is the same as the Remote application icon. Click on that and enter the code.

Let me know if this helps. If not I can explain it in more detail. I'm on my iPhone writing this so I don't want to ramble too much :-)

The Remote App IS terrific!! I now use my iPod Touch (1st gen 16GB) as a remote--hardly ever use it any more to listen to music!! I only wish it would display album art all the time...it seems to pick & choose which album art to display; not a really big deal to me though. This makes using my ATV all the more enjoyable--don't even need to have my HDTV on anymore!! Yay!!!

Hey cubbie - Did you know you can also use your iPod Touch to type in letters while searching on your Apple TV?

Very cool indeed.

Oh yeah, Chris... I LOVE the search function too!!! I feel like such a geek! :) My only wish is that my Airport Extreme Base Station's Air Disk functionality was more robust so that I could attach a drive to it (w/ my iTunes library on it) rather than use a FW 800 drive like I do now. Why? Just because......

So, is this really the way to go? I've seen that one can use a Palm, itouch, iphone & laptop. What else can one use?

I'm leaning towards the itouch but want to be sure that it's nice to use. Can you search itunes, control the computer (mini for me) and do those basic functions? Is it easy on the eyes or is everything so small it's hard to see? The shots above from Chris seem almost too good to be true...

What are you guys using?

Hello Chris, not sure if I am missing something but I am trying to use an ipad as a remote for apple tv control. It works fine with itunes but not with the Pure Music application. Do I have to add the Pure Music application to the ipad? and if so I am getting a Safari cant download it to the ipad message.

If not is there a way of showing the Pure Music skin? I guess I am unsure what exactly is being transfered but if itunes is acting only as a file then I probably have to get the app loaded onto the ipad. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks for the help thus far. The sound is very good, maybe not bit perfect, but much better than most of my friends systems...and maybe even better if I get the pure music to work. Thank you, Gordon.
