audiophile65
Can you guys tell me more about components from Emotiva? How good are they? Have you all had any good experiences with them? I might be interested in their home theater processor -- the UMC-1 -- and one of their two 2-channel power amplifiers -- the UPA-2 or the mini-X a-100. If any of you have Emotiva, what are some good speakers to drive them with? I am most familiar with the likes of Focal, Vandersteen, Thiel, PSB, Paradigm, B&W...... Link to comment
alcarp
I bought the Emotiva XDA-1 DAC about 6 months ago and am very pleased with its performance. Service & delivery from Emotiva was great. From what I hear they sell great products at very attractive prices. Link to comment
Daren F
I have an XPA-2 and an XPA-5 amp and am very happy with them. Here's a recent article from Stereophile on the XPA-5 http://www.stereophile.com/content/music-round-51 and a head to head review of the XPA-2 up against an Anthem Statement P2 which is at least 3 times more expensive than the XPA-2 http://emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=xpa2&action=display&thread=2951 I don't know much about the UMC-1 but if you order one and aren't happy with it you can return it within 30 days with no problem. Emotiva's customer service is very good. Edit: Further to above, the Bryston 9B amp that the XPA-5 is compared to in the Stereophile article retails for over $6,000.00. Link to comment
kml666
I have Emotivia's erc-1 CD player, usp-1 preamp, and two 2 bridged xpa-2s amps driving polk rti-a9s. The Emotivia equipment sounds excellent and has performed flawlessly. My only critique is the tape monitor on the preamp is not a true loop. xpa-2 review. http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/amplifiers/emotiva-xpa-2 My understanding is their dac's USB connection only handles 16/48 although optical and coaxial accept up 24/192. http://emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=preampdac&action=display&thread=21177 cheers ken Link to comment
drystream
I've had an Emotiva LMC-1 processor and LPA-1 amp for 5+ years and have been happy with them. I had a minor problem with the processor and it was replaced without problem (although I bought the gear from AV123, not from Emotiva). I'm using them with AV123 Rocket RS550 MKII front speakers and Ascend CBM-170 surrounds, a DIY center speaker, and a AV123 UFW-12 sub. I haven't kept up with their current gear, but check out the forum on their site for comments on the stuff you're interested in. I think it's solid, well-built equipment sold at a good price. iMac/Pure Music => USB => Wyred 4 Sound DAC-1 => Van Alstine Ultra EC preamp + Ultra 550 amp => VMPS 626R + Adire sub Link to comment
cfelliot
I own several Emotiva products. I use a UPA-5 and UPA-2 as the core amplification of my system driven by a Onkyo 808 used as a pre/pro.I also use a XDA-1 as my DAC. I have been very satisfied with these pieces of equipment. I can not recommend the UMC-1 as a pre/pro. I returned my unit after the trial period and replaced it with the Onkyo because of issues that are well documented on the Emotiva web site. The UMC-1 has been a "problem child" for Emotiva over the last few years, but I hold out hope that the new XMC-1 coming next year will be a killer product.
