100% noob progear question

Recommended Posts

Sorry for noob audioengineer q/ but if I was to put say an RME PCIe card or one from lynx or whatever into a MacPro, can I just play tracks straight from iTunes +/- pure music (or any other add on player)? ....or do I have to use a DAW?

Is this something that is a general rule, or is it card/player specific?

Cheers...

I don't know about Lynx drivers, but RME is Apple CoreAudio compliant, so you just go into AudioMidi Setup, choose the set of outputs you want to use, and iTunes or PureMusic will properly playback on it. You do not need a DAW such as Logic to playback. It works the same for my other interfaces such as MAudio, MOTU, TC Electronics, Prism Sound.

Cheers,
