murrayp
Hi, in my simple laptop set up Jplay sounds markedly better than JRiver (despite the fact I load files from JRiver and keep the computer active all the time). Does JPlay maintain its advantage eg on a CAPS system, or do the server optimisations already solve the issues that Jplay capitalises on in my laptop? Has anyone tried Jplay in a dedicated music server? Opinions and/or experience much appreciated. Murray Link to comment
Dennis Graves
Murray, I have both JRiver and JPlay on a CAPS2, with a high resolution system. On my system, JPlay is a quantum leap forward -- considerably better than JRiver. Dennis Link to comment
murrayp
Thanks Dennis - I don't know if that is good or bad news ) If there was the faintest idea why these players should sound so different, it would be really useful. Both are supposedly putting out the same bit perfect data, and, in many systems, it is transferred asynchronously anyway, so why on earth/how should one sound different to another??? When I started on the hobby no one explained to me goal of "suspension of disbelief" was supposed to apply to the hardware and software as well as the performance ;O) Thanks again for sharing your experience Dennis.
