I interviewed Daniel Weiss when he visited the High End Fair here in Stockholm in February this year. The resulting article was originally published in Swedish but I decided to also post the original English transcript on my blog as I figured some of you would be interested.

... were a couple of interesting comments:

 

1. Be sure to use shielded firewire cables (picks up on a recent CA thread)

 

2. Weiss does not perform listening tests (at least personally) and it appears not at all w/r/to consumer audio. I was amazed by that as I figure there's a subjective element above and beyond what "should" be based on engineering principles (but, then again, WTF to I know?)

 

[Quest]

1. Avoided question on comparison to other DACs using same chip (W4S), and no comment on general sound character of the DAC202 or user comments on the general character of the DAC.

 

2. Large emphasis on the branding of Weiss which carries the implied quality..
