Connecting DAC with macbook and ex. hardrive

I have recently bought a Music Hall DAC25.3 and I want to connect it with my macbook, external hard drive and main amp. What I am confused, and slightly concerned about, is how to do this. At first instinct, I'd guess in the order of the chain: macbook USB to harddrive USB to DAC USB to amp. However, I can't connect my hard drive to my DAC because each device only has one USB female input. I am confused about this and it would be great for an explanation of how to do this. Connect the hard drive to a USB port on the Mac.

Connect the DAC to another USB port on the Mac.

 

By the way, a common recommendation is to use a FireWire connected hard drive when using a USB connected DAC, and vice versa.
