Best Low Loss Master Vol/Mute Remote Scheme for MOTU, RME, et al, DACs?

I want to build a 5.3 sound system and wish that more pro audio brands would offer 8 channel DACs with balanced I/O, > 7 volts output/channel (to offset room correction gain losses) and USB audio input for this purpose. There is the MOTU 8A and a possibly even better sounding (??) 8 channel DAC from RME. But the other big problem is that neither brand offers them with wireless remotes to let you master control the volume/mute. My main Windows players will be JRiver, VLC and PowerDVD. Isn't there some kind of pc-connected IR interface that works with most of the smartest wireless handhelds that will give me master volume/mute remote control?
