deho Posted February 4, 2011 Share Posted February 4, 2011 All external hard drives are delivered with cheap chinese made bricks switching PSU which are extremely noisy. How to reduce that noise and avoid to pollute the rest of the system ? A quite complex solution would be to replace the brick by a linear PSU delivering both +/-12v. and +/-5v. which are needed by the HD. Miska Posted February 4, 2011 Share Posted February 4, 2011 At least the 1 TB Western Digital Elements HDD I have is happy with a single voltage power and even uses standard connector type. This is fairly easy to replace with a linear one. Switching PSUs are not bad either when properly filtered, but naturally most of the wall warts are not...
