What improvement would I expect from upgrading to the Signature? It is not Sonore's policy to comment directly on anecdotal/subjective sound quality differences, but I am happy to point out the technical differences between these two options: 1. Signature Rendu SEoptical, and 2. opticalRendu + Sonore Power Supply + DC-4 power lead. The Signature has a number of technical advantages: It uses a custom, made in the USA, Mercury Magnetics, EI style transformer, which rejects more AC line noise, and costs 9x more, than the very good quality toroidal transformer used in the Sonore Power Supply. The Signature has additional AC line input filtering which the Sonore Power Supply does not have. The Signature has almost 3x the amount of main filtering capacitance of the Sonore Power Supply, and the Signature's power supply capacitors are ultra high quality Mundorf AG units, whereas the Sonore Power Supply uses very good quality industrial capacitors. The Signature also has a few other higher end parts (film capacitors and polymer capacitors) in its power supply section. The Signature also takes advantage of close coupling between the power supply and the main circuitry, this close coupling results in lower inductance and capacitance between the power supply and the active circuitry (no cable is always better than a cable and the cable connections) allowing for the power supply to respond faster to the needs of the active circuitry. To avoid any possibility of interference between the onboard power supply (magnetic from the transformer and RF from the AC input wiring) the Signature has an internal divider shield of a very carefully chosen alloy which provides magnetic and RF shielding. Additionally, the Signature has a custom, made in the USA chassis, of heavy gauge Aluminum and steel panels, with a .5" front panel with a beautiful black chrome finish and laser etched graphics. This heavy gauge chassis sits on four custom machined aluminum feet with sorbothane vibration absorbing pads to reduce vibration, and the chassis itself provides a much more solid foundation for the circuitry. econaut and jiminlogansquare 1 1 SO/ROON/HQPe: DSD 512-Sonore opticalModuleDeluxe-Signature Rendu optical with Well Tempered Clock--DIY DSC-2 DAC with SC Pure Clock--DIY Purifi Amplifier-Focus Audio FS888 speakers-JL E 112 sub-Nordost Tyr USB, DIY EventHorizon AC cables, Iconoclast XLR & speaker cables, Synergistic Purple Fuses, Spacetime system clarifiers.
