re "The MMM1 is so far upstream, and so I was skeptical at first."

I don't look at it that way - purely from an amplification point of view, I figure that the closer to the source, the better it has to be (because the faults will be amplified) - ie spend a lot of money on the turntable and the cartridge.

What say you?

1. Until today I used these settings on my MMM1

poly-sinc-gauss-xla
poly sing gauss-long
LNS15
ASDM7ECv2

this produced DSD256 (48k 256)
CPU temps approx 60C

2. My recently discovered settings are -

As above except -

AMSDM7EC 512+fs

This produces DSD512 (48k 512) - no dropouts
CPU temps approx 30C

Comments please.

Well,,,,,,,,,,I can answer my own question.

ASDM7ECv2 @ DSD256 is the definite winner!

Beware of the latest MacOS update for your M1 - 1 April 2022.

Surely not April fool from Apple??

Either way, once installed, my M1 could not recognise my normal boot process for HQP.

My other M1 (not upgraded) is fine - thankfully!!!

Solved - the update had somehow changed the Sharing setup!

Thanks to some Miska Magic, my Mac Mini M1 has now broken the "sound barrier"!!

DSD64 (& DSD128 &DSD256) to DSD512 (without noisy i9 fans).

My settings are -

HQP 4.18.1, buffer Default, 48k DSD, AMSDM7 512+fs, grey Multicore DSP, FIR2, wide.

But I cannot get AMSDM7EC 512+fs to work without dropouts.

Also PCM96 (and up to 352.8 PCM) to DSD512

gauss-hires.

And PCM44.1 to DSD512

gauss xla

The SQ improvement over DSD256 is fantastic!

Thank you Miska.

I have just updated to 4.19.2

Based on your info re this update -

Bug fixes and component updates. Core usage improvements in certain cases.

It would seem that our Mac Mini M1 are not included?  I was hoping to be able to use EC.

I do appreciate that you cannot always perform miracles!

Wow, interesting!  I'm still on the TeraDak 200W LPS.  Someday I might try a better LPS, but very happy with the MMM1 LPS upgrade with that.  My setup has an EtherREGEN and ultraRendu (both powered by really nice LPSs with nice fuses 🤑).

Hello again!

In case you have not already done so, I recommend that you update ultraRendu NAA to 4.2.0 - improvements in sound stage and "power".  But, in any case, it is free!

My reason to try PCM was due to you alerting me to the 6dB loss when playing DSD.

Playing DSD, with HQP set to -6dBM and EQ requiring -6.4dB, my poor amp volume control was (for some classical files) was at the max!

So now, playing PCM, it is several clicks back!

For me (without EQ enabled) my May KTE @ DSD512 is fab.

Unfortunately my DDC is limited to 384/DSD512.
