Help on digital delays please

Recommended Posts

Hi, newbie here, advice would be much appreciated.

I am trying to implement a delay in the digital stream from my cd (and presently hard drive but that's over the horizon yet - much more reading to do first). I need to time align my subwoofers with my main speakers. Can anyone recommend a product or method of doing this that won't degrade the signal? Maybe some of the pro gear, but I have no idea how it stacks up? I'd tentatively like to keep anything required in the 24/96 or 192 arena for future compatibility with hi-rez computer media.

I use an Ayon cd2 which is absolutely magic as it stands, but this won't allow a digital out and a digital in at the same time, so unless I can get it modded (way beyond me) I guess that might mean another drive and/or dac, groan, as well. I reckon if I have to choose the dac part of the Ayon is the better half, so howzabout some good value transports as well? I am interested in quality of sound, but not bothered how they look etc. I don't have to please SWMBO who has banished all that resembles music reproduction to the basement (cleverly shifting problematic husband out of harm's way at the same time).

Many thanks for any help/advice you can offer.

All what exists for the analogue only is quite unaffordable. But what will happen to you when you must start replacing the transport may also be quite painful.

To avoid all this ... isn't there a phase knob on the sub ?

A sub usually has this, and it is there for exactly the reason you want.

HI Peter,

my sub is actually an antique Vitavox unit of some bulk, so no phase knobs there unfortunately, but room shaking bass. The problem I have is that I need to slow down the main signal since the sub responds after them, smearing the low bass. Whilst this is tolerable on some music it is not so when the percussion arrives. I am hoping to perform this in the digital domain.

Incidentally I have heard back from Ayon who are away on holiday but still took the time to reply. Good customer service! Unfortunately they reckon I can't do what I want with the unit however.
