Wasapi Foobar Popping Help, please

Hi everyone, been really enjoying the site, some lovely stuff on here, was wondering if you could help me with a problem, I'm pretty sure it must be answered here somewhere but I've been working on it for about three hours and I think I have forum/google blindness, so if there is an answer here just point me in the right direction, thanks.

Been trying to set Foobar to play with wasapi and the playback pops/crackles (not faulty lead type of crackles, but it doesn't really sound like skipping either) when i use it. Tried Xplay and it's the same. It's fine when I don't use it on both players. This is happening on every flac file I play. It probably happens on others too but I don't have MP3s, I'm presuming (I know I shouldn't though) it's not a problem with flacs though.

I'm using a Sound Blaster 24bit Live External soundcard, it's a bit old so I'm thinking it could be that.

Files I've tried to play are 24/96, 16/44, DTS

Tried various Default Formats in the Sound panel.

Tried just about every option in the Output preferences of Foobar, buffer, output data format and no joy.

I was thinking at first that I was trying to output 24/96 when my card couldn't handle it, but it shouldn't do it on 16/44s if that was the case.

I want to get a DAC which is the reason I'm trying to get wasapi working. (I have a couple of preferences which I may ask advice on later if no-one minds).

I've vary probably forgotten some things I've tried if I have I'm sorry, but I think I may be going a bit mad because of this.

If anyone could help me I would be eternally grateful, or at least point me in the right direction.

From the Sound card I'm going into Prima Luna Prologue 2, with relatively new valves, and CDs/Vinyl are playing fine.

Again wonderful site, given me some great ideas for DACs. Really sorry if this is a crappy newbie question, going to go and Llisten to Music From the Body now to cheer myself up.

Good idea Keith, thanks for the quick reply, you can get so focused on a problem, that the obvious just doesn't occur to you sometimes, trying it now, I'll tell you how it goes. Thanks mate.

Edit: That appears to be working my new lifelong friend :), if that works why doesn't wasapi? Is kernel streaming the same as wasabi under Vista, the Windows Mixer is different in Vista isn't it? Am I going to still have to work out what is wrong with wasabi? Or can I stick with this?

Edit 2: Surely this should be the other way around? wasapi is made for vista so shouldn't kernel streaming be the buggy one? Or is this just Vista bugs still.

For anyone who may be interested, I have sorted my problem. Got up this morning and thought "Right let's sort this" and re-installed Vista from scratch, then re-installed drivers for the SB Live (I had tried the drivers previously and it made no difference) and all is fine (fingers crossed, probably jinxed myself now), so god knows exactly what it was, gonna re-install programs one by one checking as I go, but for now it's sorted.

Windows eh? Such fun and games.

Thanks Keith for your help.
