New loudspeakers & room digital correction service

I really like the idea of using your expertise via HAF to produce the required filters, and then it should be simple enough to upload into Roon.

I haven't done any sound measurements before (I do have a copy of REW, and a UMIK-1 mic), but am worried that I may not do the best job of taking the measurements, which would limit the effectiveness of the filters you can produce.

Is it easy enough for you to see if the measurements have been carried out satisfactorily, and if not advise to take new one's, without having to go through the expense of having to pay twice for a better set of filters (not saying you wouldn't advise, just a genuine question from a newbie).

Dumb Questions:

1. Where do I get the Pink Noise file for generating the sound

2. Does it make any difference to taking the measurements if having a 2.1 set-up (2 front mains, with a Subwoofer in the mix)

Cheers

Appreciate you getting back to me.

Next week I'll pick a music sample (unsure which will be best), and send it through for the free trial. Not that I'm doubting the HAF correction filters won't work, but will give me an idea of the potential change in sound from the original to your optimised version.

Then I'll carry out the measurements via REW (want to take my time and get these right) and can then send through for the full version (most likely will go for the cross talk correction option, then getting the best of both worlds).

Cheers

John

PS Dumb Question Alert - do I need to carry out any measurements via REW prior to sending through my music file for the free trial

Ok, so I gave it a try doing the measurements in REW - 1L & 1R sweet spot, and another 7 each L & R. Still not sure if I've done them correctly, but for the trial song(s) it will give me a good idea of what your filters can achieve.

FYI I normally sit offset from the middle of the speakers and have actually did the measurements with me being offset (1/3 to the left side of centre, i.e. 0.5m from the left speaker axis, and 1.8m from the right speaker). Would you prefer if I did the measurements sitting exactly in the middle? (not where I normally sit)

Also could I ask a big favour. I've actually linked 2 songs, therefore would it be possible to do your magic on both of these (they’re a bit different from each other, so gives me an idea with differing types of music). If only 1 song possible then that's ok.

Don't worry I'm not going to waste your time, as 100% made my mind up to go ahead and get the full filters package from yourself ("Excellence" option: Filters with & w/o cross talk correction), happy to go ahead with the payment if you need that first. I just wanted you to have a look at my measurements & data, and advise if I’ve carried them out correctly, or do I need to redo them (i.e. sitting in the centre of the speakers, or more accurate with my spacing for each measurement, it was a bit more random for locations for 2 to 8).

Regarding the full set of filters, are these generated for all specific sample rates, e.g. 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz, 176.4kHz & 192kHz (do you do DSD)?

Thanks for your time, and looking forward to hearing the songs rejigged.

Cheers

John

PS I've sent you all the info in the comment section of your website.

Hi again. I asked a few questions on Devialetchat and appreciate your responses. Rather than go back and forth thought worth asking here, as above posters have asked about integration of Sub with mains.

I have a 2.1 set-up:

  • Devialet 1000Pro
  • Antipodes CORE music server
  • Lenehan Audio ML5 Mains speakers (2 way floor stander)
  • Paradigm Sub-1

Attached is my current configuration for Sub1 integration with my front speakers via my Devialets. So I have it currently set at High Pass Filter, 80hz cut-off, 2nd Order.

Do I need to do anything else other than do my new measurements via REW or your new tool. Also do you think my setting for 2nd Order Filter at 80Hz would be correct (thinking of dropping this down to 40Hz so the Sub only covers the low range).

I'll need to get new filters soon as having my current speakers upgraded (same enclosures, but new tweeter and crossovers). Will have to wait a month to let the new speakers burn in (need to get some hours into the new crossover caps), but want to get things in order before I do them (also gives me a chance to try your new measurement tool, or re-do with REW).

Cheers

Click on that measurement file package in your website from an iPad was not successful. But maybe that’s not meant to be or ?

See attached (Hope Thierry doesn't mind me posting them on here, if not I'll delete them).

if not correct for me to load files here see link  HAF Measurement Tools

For the sub integration you can perform room transfer measurements of each speaker alone (sub, main left, main right) to better optimize the crossover strategy (including potential overlapping as having multiple sources in the bass region can be beneficial)

Thierry

Sorry to be such a square, but how do I go about doing this, as it's sounds from your explanation that this would be the better option. Also can I do this using your tools, or with REW?

@Celts88

I can guide you if you'd like to fine tune your sub integration : you just need to perform acoustic measurements of each element separately at listening position and send me the files.

Thierry

Thanks for the offer, I'll take you up on that. Not in an immediate rush as I'm currently having my speakers upgraded (new tweeters, crossovers, caps, isolation footers, etc., etc.) so will have to wait until I get these back (in 2 weeks time) before thinking of doing new measurements.

As the Tweeters / Crossovers / Caps are new would also like to give the speakers a good burn in before doing the measurements, but not sure how much this will affect new Filters (looking at getting the Excellence Head filters). Thinking at least 1 month should be enough time, but some say at least 2 months minimum.

When doing the sub integration measurements do I do the same sweep measurements required for filters (Pink Noise, etc.), with Left Main, Right Main & Sub as 3 seperate group of readings. Also, I wouldn't have to do the multiple readings required for the filters (is one per speaker sufficient, sitting in the listening spot)

@fresponse

Ok, so just one sweep measurement per speaker, but how do I do just the subwoofer?

Do I play music (or Pink Noise) and disconnect my speakers cables leaving just the sub (assume I also stop all crossover points within my Devialet amps, and disable my HAF Filters within Roon)?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

John
