Music played from hard disk skips briefly to another song

Has anyone had this problem?

When playing music from an external hard drive the music playing is occasionally interrupted by

a few seconds of an entirely different piece of music.

 

This has happened only since I got a new PC. I copied all my music files on the old pc to an external

hard drive and USBed it to the new PC. The external drive always worked fine before. Where is the

problem? New PC is WIN7 64 bit. Old one was Pentium Dual Core 32 bit. Is the external drive malfunctioning?

It didn't with the old PC.

 

Any thoughts?

What music player are you using?

 

I'm Mac only, but I would look at the configuration of your music player with the new OS. The point being, you changed the OS, not the external drive.

I've used a number of different players. It doesn't seem to make a difference.

The new PC has an optical digital output which I'm using to feed a Meridian 861

processor.
