Popular Post Berrie
As the developer of Rigelian (and MPoD / MPaD in the past) I'd like to give some background on the whole development model. As stated above, the AppStore is certainly not a viable business model for a niche app like a controller for mpd. Some figures on that: Since I started on Rigelian in November 2017 I spent over 1.050 hours on it. After almost two years in the store there are 950 monthly users, of which a little over 500 have a paid subscription. This results in monthly proceeds from the AppStore of around 120-130 Euro per month. For that I also have to answer around 10 - 15 support requests per month. So I'm only doing this because I really love to build and share something, and learn new things. And I guess the same is true for others who develop apps like Rigelian. It also means if a better way to spend someone's time comes along, it's likely that the app will stop being developed. For MPoD and MPaD that was the case when I was approached to develop the app for a commercial player which I then did for a number of years. I stopped that when I could no longer combine it with my regular job, and then started on Rigelian, and decided to go for a subscription model to have at least some incentive to keep it up-to-date with new mpd versions, new iOS versions etc. As a final comment, even though I'm obviously very biased, I can't see how yaMPC can be seriously compared to Rigelian, both in terms of functionality and user experience.
