bmoura
I've considered DCS, but I was concerned I was buying old technology. How are they in terms of updates? Do they release updates to same dac or just create new models? dCS did discontinue their Professional line of DACs for recording in PCM and DSD after EMM Labs/Ed Meitner passed them in that market. But they still make home audio DACs. So I think you are safe there. Link to comment
bmoura
Push your budget a little and try Chord Dave DAC. It is a very transparent DAC belong to FPGA design class. I'd go with the NADAC, Playback Designs, Bricasti and the Meitner DACs over the Dave for their sound quality. Link to comment
bmoura
Add the Lampizator Atlantic and the Playback Designs Merlot to your list. I haven't heard an Atlantic yet, but have heard the Merlot and it sounded very good with equipment on par with yours. Atlantic is getting good reviews. The Playback Designs Merlot DAC is very good. Definitely one to audition in the under $10,000 market. Report from AXPONA 2016 - Positive Feedback Link to comment
bmoura
DAVE sounds better than Bricasti M1 definitely. Sent from my iPhone using Computer Audiophile Everyone has their preferences. I'd give the quality thumbs up to Bricasti. Link to comment
bmoura
I have the Bricasti SE. Beware of other folks comparisons to the bricasti as it will depend what version and upgrades. SE is the latest with all the updates. Don't forget the upcoming Bricasti M12. Another winner. https://parttimeaudiophile.com/2016/04/19/axpona-2016-bricasti-design-dials-it-to-12/ Link to comment
bmoura
For a under your budget check out the new Playback Designs Merlot. He builds great sounding DAC's. Yes, the Playback Designs Merlot is an excellent Stereo DSD 256 DAC. Easily one of the best DACs on the market - at its price - and above. Link to comment
bmoura
But I heard the PCM didnt sound good (though DSD was excellent). See AcousticGuru's shootout post over at WBF. The folks I've heard from who have a Merlot tell me the PCM playback on it is excellent. As always, YMMV (your mileage may vary). Link to comment
