M2Tech Young MK2 DSD DAC (Blown Away!)

Recommended Posts

Emcee,

In which case the Hegels have wonderful synergy with NAIM i think a new one by the name of HD12 DSD is about to be released, if you are going for the young you must hear it with the optional PS!

Thanks,

I know a place that sells Hegel and M2Tech (but unfortunately not Chord) however HD12 is not listed on Hegel website yet.

Thanks for everyone's feedback, i can see that a lot of buddies here regard FPGA as something iconoclastic - in reality, the technology has been around for sometime and i personally regard using the FPGA to make the D/A conversion is not very special in itself.

What may make it special is the way conversion is performed - this i concur however One of the things that make the Young DSD so special for users so far (except the sound itself, which is considered much better than the old Young) is the analog volume control which is very effective in providing a natural musical experience as opposed to most converters employing this in the digital domain, the 3 different gain stages, but in order to get most out of the young dsd - one must use it with the optional power supply the palmer or the up and coming power supply.

This makes it apt for it to power different amplifiers (i tried with Tube, with the lowest setting - which was glorious) and the highest for my solid state ref setup - it worked well across the board - well done M2Tech.

Regarding the preamp in Young DSD. I have tried it out as I have the the possibility to bypass the preamp in my integrated amplifier - ModWright KWI 200. In this mode I can use the Modwright as a power amplifier.

In other words I have used the ModWright KWI 200 as power amplifier and Young DSD as pre/DAC. Sound is quite good using the Young DSD as a preamp/DAC. But it isn´t at the same level of performance compared to the preamp section in the ModWright. In fact the preamp in the ModWright is superior to the Young DSD preamp in every aspect. Therefore I have turned the volume OFF on the Young DSD using it as a pure standalone DAC. This was my intention from the beginning btw. As I have the possibility to try out the preamp in the Young DSD I thought it could be nice to check it out.

Don´t misunderstand me. The Young DSD preamp section isn´t bad at all. At this price point I do think it´s quite good. But there are better sounding preamps out there IMO. In my opinion the Young DSD is at its best when it is used alone as DAC.

I feel the same way about not using the preamp, and i am always more interested in the DAC section since i have a reasonably good preamp, but as product life is so short its important for me for the young to have a good preamp section which cancels out distortion in the dac section as its a combined circuit topology, more importantly in the future i might relegate the young to a desktop system with active speakers and its good to know that the young is capable of this with better capacity than most in the market which which uses full digital attenuators rather than specialist all analog resistor ladder.

Hi. This is my first post here.

I'm almost decided to buy Young DSD. The problem is i do not know what next.

I wanted to buy NAS Synology and connect it directly to DAC , but someone has told me it may not work, another person on some forum has said Synology does not support full res of Young.

I've got of course also quit good laptop and i could use it with foobar or Jriver as a player via usb.

Now, i'm wondering which solution will result in best quality of sound. Any tips ?

This option with NAS connected directly to DAC seems to me ok but i have doubts mentioned above ( i prefere not to use laptop to listen music :) ).

Maybe do you have other solutions ??? I know i can build special pc with ppa but it is a little bit to expensive for me right now and it is a computer :)

It is to play with AP Virgo V, ECI3.

THANKS
