Home Audio Plan: Cables? Streaming System? etc.

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone.

This is my first post here. I'm doing a top-to-bottom home renovation now. So all walls are open for cabling and such :)

Here's the hardware I've got right now:

Verizon FiOS connected to an Actiontec MI424-WR Rev. E wireless router connected to an Apple Time Capsule A1302

Amp1: Onkyo TX-8050 internet enabled to be connected to two pair of Mission M-71s and a new pair of outdoor speakers ($500 budget).

TV: Samsung 46UE6150F with no external speakers planned and no cable TV. We watch Netflix, Amazon and Hulu.

Amp2: AudioSource Amp 100 to be connected to a MacBook Pro and an old Bose Acoustimass 5 Series II cube/subwoofer kit.

Antenna: for digital broadcast TV and FM Radio.

We listen to Spotify, Pandora, KCRW, KEXP, The Current and other streaming services. We have some music on iTunes as well. We use our various phones and computers as well as the Onkyo to stream them.

So... Here are my questions:

1) What kind of wire should I use with the speakers? Budget $1/foot. I can dual wire if needed.

2) The user interface on the Onkyo is buggy and bad when it works. The USB connector for the iPad and iPhone is very unreliable as well. We probably need something better to manage our music - ideas? Budget $350

3) Do we need one antenna or two for the FM and DTV signals. What antennas?

4) Outdoor speaker recommendation? Budget $500

5) What kind of cable should we use to connect to the router? Budget $1/foot.

I sketched a diagram of all of this. I can't seem to attach an image, so I put it on Google Drive. It's here:

Thanks for your help!

Blue Jeans Cable speaker wire.

Apple TV3. $100. Play via airplay or whatever they call it these days.

Those are obsolete technologies.

4) Outdoor speaker recommendation? Budget $500

Costco, Yamaha outdoor speakers. I just saved you $350. You are welcome.

Ethernet cable. Again, blue jeans cable is a good deal. (Considerably less that $1/ft.)
