Musicophile
It is the defined standard of your regular Audio CD, with 16 bits and 44.1khz sampling frequency. zenpmd
Got you. So nothing too fancy then. What is John Siau of Benchmark audio talking about in the attached interview on page 7: "USB is only transparent when it supports 24 bit audio. The 16 bit USB interfaces are worthless - as they almost always cause truncation- even when playing 16 bit files." Musicophile
Would be easier if you attach the interview :-) Check out my blog at musicophilesblog.com - From Keith Jarrett to Johannes Brahms Link to comment

Musicophile
What an idiot! Sorry! www.benchmarkmedia.com/sites/default/files/.../EAN-interview-john.pdf The way I read this John seems to indicate that the older 16bit USB solutions often are not really bit perfect (Iwasnt aware of this, but well possible). Not a real issue these days any more, as you'll barely find any new DACs with this kind of outdated input, and if you happen to have an older one, a good USB-SPDIF converter like your Halide will help you avoid it. sarcese52
It's the specifications that were established for the Compact Disc Format when it was first introduced. The term comes from the book the specs were published in; it had a Red cover, hence the term Redbook Link to comment
