JohnMH
Very interesting. Good find. I love Brubeck's stuff and would challenge the assertion that it somehow doesn't "swing". For me it swings just fine. If you like odd time signatures you might like to check out Don Ellis the trumpeter. His pianist from Bulgaria wrote one called Bulgarian Bulge that is amazing - 33/16 time signature. I think it's on the album Tears of Joy. Apparently odd meters are not that unusual in some cultures. Don experimented in many ways including unusual meters, unusual big band configurations, unusual tonalities. He had a quarter tone trumpet made with a 4th valve to access the quarter steps. He was a true trumpet virtuoso who unfortunately died in his 40's of a heart condition. Highly recommended, I just wish the recordings were a bit better.
