Nielsen: Symphonies 2 & 3 - Gilbert/NYP (Dacapo)

Recommended Posts

This album is the first release in a projected series on Dacapo of all the Nielsen symphonies with Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic. Interestingly, the 3rd symphony was originally recorded in the DXD format (at 352.8/24) while the 2nd was done in 96/24 (but edited and mixed in DXD 352.8/24). The album is being offered as a 192/24 download by eClassical; it's also available in 88.2/24 and 192/24 via Dacapo's own site. I downloaded it from eClassical, as they are currently offering it at a discounted price for a limited time.

Thanks for posting the plots! Especially on the 2nd, it is funny that they are offering it as 192/24, as anything above 45 kHz or so (as appropriate for 96/24) is just digital noise. I am surprised at the rising HF spectrum of the 3rd, assuming a true DXD recording. It really looks like some sort of 96/24 intermediate step there too.
