Beyerdynamic DTX501p -vs- Sennheiser Amperior -vs- Shure 1840

Recommended Posts

Sounds silly, huh? $99 USD versus $350 and $700 headphones. Here's the Day 10 report:

The midrange of the 501p is similar to the 1840, and by comparison the Amperior's midrange sounds somewhat muffled and indistinct.

The highs of the 501p are rolled off, and with a treble boost, the 501's highs have much less energy still than the 1840, and a slight bit less than the Amperior.

The bass of the Amperior is stronger than the 501p, and the 501p's bass is similar to or very slightly stronger than the 1840.

I'm not finding any particular colorations in the DTX501p as there are in my ATH M50, B&W P3, etc. The 501p is as smooth as the B&W P5, but where the P5 is tilted toward the bottom end the 501p has a more high fidelity balance.
