Willis Earl Beal in Lo-Fi

Recommended Posts

Does it get any worse than this? His new album "acoustic sorcery" seemed promising when I heard a song on the radio. This is the worst recording I've ever heard. Beal's new album comes with a disclaimer that he enjoys his music poorly recorded. It is sad because Willis seems to actually have some talent. Is Lo-fi cool now? I don't mind lo-fi recordings as long as the artist at least tries to do a good job with it; eg. elliott smith's early stuff. In this case, it's clear the Willis likes crappy recordings. I can't help but think of Ted Hawkins listening to Willis. I saw Hawkins at the Cactus Cafe in Austin in 1993. I guess its the homeless guy turns recording star thing. At least Hawkins had enough respect for his music to submit to the process in the recording studio.
