catskill
I am new to computer HiFi sound. I bought a pair of Event Tuned Reference 8's for my computer a few years ago but just hooked them up directly from the computer. I was not impressed. So I took the next step and added a Benchmark DAC1 via a USB Kimber Kable and two Balanced XLR Kimber Kables to the Event speakers. I was blown away by the improvement in sound. So I want to take another step. I was thinking of improving the player I'm using which is iTunes and trying some HD music files. What do you think, is this a step in the right direction, is it the right next step? Thanks Link to comment
wgscott
You might want to try one of the free or moderately-priced specialized players that (optionally) works with iTunes, e.g.: Bit-perfect, Decibel, Audirvana-free, Audirvana-plus. Link to comment
catskill
wgscott, are you suggesting these because you feel they are just as good as the more expensive ones? I've seen CA list of suggested players, but I haven’t found any reviews of the players? Link to comment
Audio_ELF
Personally I'd upgrade to a more modern computer than trying to get audio working well with NeXTStep :-) Eloise Eloise --- ...in my opinion / experience... While I agree "Everything may matter" working out what actually affects the sound is a trickier thing. And I agree "Trust your ears" but equally don't allow them to fool you - trust them with a bit of skepticism. keep your mind open... But mind your brain doesn't fall out. Link to comment
catskill
Next step is just the subject line of my submission to this forum. My computer is a 2010 Mac Pro tower. Link to comment
