TDA1543 DIY DAC is still competitive?
gianlucag posted a topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Help please to choose my first DIY project. 1) I want to build my first DAC, so project should be quite easy so using Spdif input and simple soldering (breadboard and SOIC to DIP adapters) 2) I'm listening only to wav/flac 16bit/44KHz 3) I would use OPAMP IV stage because chip rolling always allows me to easily modify the sound signature 4) After looking to many DIY DAC schemes and, overall, nowadays component availability, I'm going to choose or CS8412+TDA1543 or CS8412+PCM1710. I have already the CS8412 chip. I know the sound of PCM1710U (Sigma delta), as I have in my CD player, it sounds great thus I can replicate it: no risk. But I see tons of easy TDA1543 projects (R2R ladder) , all enthusiasts. But both belonging to 15 years ago... Are these still "sonically" valid nowadays? What do you suggest to choose (from an "audio point of view")? See below possible schemes: A) CS8412+PCM1710 like PCM1710 B) CS8412+TDA1543 (may be put some in parallel) like TDA1543 with OPAMP or TDA1543 DDDAC I know they are totally different, may be I will put both in my machine, thus any comment is welcome.
