hotaudio usb dac

Hi,i just received my usb dac from hotaudio he sells on ebay.It has the pcm2704 chip and it gives a nice warm sound to my nad receiver and paradigm speakers which i thought were alittle bright.It is a big improvement over my denon universal player that has a 24bit burr brown chip.This dac is only a 16 bit.Im using this with media monkey and it sounds great the only thing is it does not sound as loud as my denon. I have the out put of the dac pluged into my nad cd input.I wonder if it would be better to use the aux input?All the volumes are fully open.Mybe its just the warmer sound but i dont think so.Any ideas on more volume/Thanks
