[Networking] Help with simple Linux Mint > MacOS Stream

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm sure this is the right place to get some help on basic networking for music :)

I have 2 computers:

1) My personal Desktop Computer: Linux Mint 18.3 KDE Edition connected to router via Ethernet running 24/7. All my music is on an internal hdd here.

2) Laptop I received from work: Macbook Pro 2020 running Monterey 12.1 connected via Wifi

All of my work-work is done on the Macbook and I'd love to browse & listen to my local music collection from the Mac, using a Dac/Amp (RU6) while keeping it bitperfect

I tried to just right-click the music folder and to share it, which is supposed to enable samba, but couldn't connect to it from the mac from finder -> connect to server -> smb://IP or smb://IP/FolderName

I'm very new to streaming and don't understand the difference between DLNA UPNP or SMB.

All I want is being able to play my files from the mac.

I'd love to get easy recommendations on how to enable this and what software is recommended

Thanks
