Serious Issues w/ Amarra

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to this forum, have been reading it over the past few weeks while trialling first Pure Music and now Amarra and Pure Vinyl. By the way.. big thanks to these developers for the decent trial periods

First, I was absolutely blown away by Pure Music it quite literally opened my eyes and ears to the audio potential of my humble laptop. While playback was astonishing, I was very keen to try Pure Vinyl as I have a substantial record collection that needs archiving... but why run my trials consecutively?

It was then I finally came across this website and read about Amarra, and to a lesser extent Audivarna.

So, now that my Pure Music trial has expired, and there is no chance of returning to iTunes sans bit perfect piggybackers, I need to make a decision.

Problem is... Amarra just fails... and I know it's better than that... or at least should be for ~$650AUD

The demo version has a serious delay from selecting a track and hitting play.. till the first beat comes through... if it is the first beat... occasionally it drops in somewhere in the first or second bar. Then, it commonly stalls, complete silence, a few seconds into the track and then resumes in a new place, or skips to the next track... what the?

The final issue... and this is a doozy... is that upon launching amarra I need to check my pre is set to "out 1/2" from my interface (8 in/8 out), as the other tracks will have the most gut wrenching squeal run through them at full volume... my headphones are on 7/8 and it sounds like an electric drill from 3ft away.

I have figured a workthru by rescanning my I/O... which freaks the player out and makes it play at 44.1k no matter what the sample rate of the first track I select.

anyway, If anyone has a tip or two, I'd be grateful... while I try and decide on Pure Music or Pure Vinyl...

Actually.... maybe I'll just donate to Audivarna...
