Pure Music Volume Keeps Turning Itself Down

Has anyone experienced this before? I'm demoing the Ayre QB-9 and the Arcam (yeah, I know) and using Pure Music for the first time (also a trial). I turned off PM and I'm playing iTunes and it is holding the volume as any source normally would. Baffling as to why the volume will not hold with PM running iTunes.

 

I'd like to try putting the Squeezebox between my computer and the DAC, but I'm not sure how I am supposed to configure it. I'm thinking I connect the SB to the DAC via the USB cable and then connect the DAC to the pre with the RCAs?

 

I'm just getting started listening, but can say that the sound of the music on the computer sounds much better through either DAC vs. the SB. However, the SB plays beautifully via Internet radio.
