How to add external hard drive (portable) library to Squeezebox Touch running from main desktop Mac

I would like to use a external hard drive to store down loaded files and connect the external hard drive to my main Desk top Mac. How can I direct my Squeezebox Touch to this external drive and do I need to add any additional server applications to the external drive i.e another copy of iTunes etc. Please respond to forum and/or:
