itunes UNBELIEVABLY slow

Hello audio buddies and Happy New Year to all of you! May this year bring to you everything you possibly imagine.

 

I own a Mac Pro early 2009, with 4GB of RAM, 8-core etc. a generally speaking fast machine.

 

I am have a lot of trouble with my itunes. Everything and I mean everything I try to do, like select a playlist, search, create a new playlist etc. takes very long time.

 

For example when i try to enter something in the search field it takes about a second for each letter to appear AFTER i type it. A disaster....

 

I do not remember if this happened after an update or suddenly.

 

I have around 8000 playlists (one playlist for each album), do you think this could be causing the problem?

I have 3.5tb of music in 3 different internal hard disks.

 

Too much music shouldnt be the cause of the problem cause when I search for example through spotlight the result is immediate.
