Scheduling Backups and Storage

I have two questions for the community. First, what is the best way to schedule backups if I have three external drives where I store my music. I use a MacMini where the drives are connected directly - approximately 1.5 tb of music in lossless format. The second question is around storage. I have an ethernet network in my apartment and have been thinking about getting a NAS that could connect away from my listening room, although I haven't thought of a great place to keep it in silence. Given that I am a single person and don't have multiple machines, what would the benefit of geting a NAS other than better redundancy and storage safety (if that's even the case?) Any help is greatly appreciated.
