Popular Post Mike48
When I owned a TacT 2.2X, I also tried a lot of curves. TacT supplied files for something like a hundred, so one could try them without a lot of work. Like @mitchco, I found the most natural to my ears were flat but tilted. (The ones that jog up or down at certain frequencies sounded wrong when an instrument was soloing around the jog point.) With my current Anthem STR preamp, I've set up the 4 presets with 4 curves with different slopes. What sounds best depends on the type of music. On orchestral music, string quartets, or anything else featuring violin, harpsichord, or soprano voice, the steepest tilt (in my case - 6dB total) sounds the best to my ears. On simple acoustic music, such as guitar, mandolin, and such, a less steep curve sounds better, as it gives more life and air. When I listen to some Water Lily releases, I use a curve close to horizontal, but with a little bass boost. Not only are everyone's ears different, and everyone's room different -- every recording is different. One target curve will not give the most natural sound on all recordings. Program a few, and try them. Getting this just the way you like it will take a while, a little work, and a lot of listening. It's a process! jaaptina and hellblau 2 Link to comment
Mike48
Do you like the bump up at about 700 Hz? I'd be inclined to delete that point and raise the 600 Hz point by 1dB or so, to let the curve become more smooth and level in that area. Something to consider, anyway. You might prefer it, dislike it, or it might make no difference! That's less important right now than getting rid of the distortion, no doubt. It sounds like you're on your way. jaaptina 1 Link to comment
