Switching power supplies

There has been a lot of talk, here and elsewhere, about switching power supplies and how they may, or may not, degrade sound quality. One of the recurring arguments is that they inject RF noise in the mains and thus degrade sound quality for gear with conventional, linear power supplies. If this is the case, isn't the remedy obvious? Eliminate linear power supplies altogether :-)

How about we just make companies built sufficient filtering and shielding into their SMPS so that they do not affect the billions upon billions of ¥€$ already spent on linear supplied electronics.

 

We wouldn't let a company sell a car that made other cars crash as it drove past, would we?
