Kimo
Here is a DAC that certainly worked beautifully without a preamp, while running its sister monoblocks. We actually preferred another well know DAC running through the analog inputs of this unit, rather than straight into said monoblocks while utilizing its volume control. http://www.linnenberg-audio.de/html/telemann.html But it can't be had for a grand. It’s just a matter of which one you like or don’t like. I am confused. If every preamp adds color, including DAC output stages, then your goal is to eliminate as many stages as possible, and get down to the "color" you like in the most basic terms? Link to comment
Kimo
For all the preamp adverse posting here, I have eliminated mine. Going straight from the DAC, and yes it sounds better without being compromised on dynamics. Of course, the DAC has a really nice analog volume control. Probably better than most preamps, so that certainly helps. Even my vinyl rig sounds better. Link to comment
